We've been married for more than 2 years now, and still, there are so many lessons for me to learn when it comes to keeping a marriage harmonious. I always make mistakes and say the stupidest things but my dearie would always forgive me and still love me despite all my flaws. Sometimes, despite knowing not to, I repeat these mistakes, and my baby still tolerates all this and loves me. What are the lessons I learned?
1. Never take her for granted. Just because she would stand by you through thick and thin doesn't mean that you expect her to be there all the time. Don't let her feel unappreciated (see below).
2. Show your appreciation and gratitude for the things she has done for you. Regardless of whether it's a minor or major thing, always show from the heart that you appreciate her, either through expressions or actions.
3. Always say 'I love you' sincerely from the heart to each other. It never hurts to say more of it, but it can hurt if you don't say it at all.
4. Be patient with her. Whenever you're faced with a disagreement, try to talk rationally and calmly. Never let your emotions get the better of you.
5. A guy's ego is huge, but don't let that stop you from saying 'I'm sorry' if it's your fault. You must be gracious enough to admit that you're wrong. Don't try to cover up your mistake by coming up with excuses. It'll only make matters worse.
6. If you're not happy with something, do bring it up and discuss it with her in a calm and rational manner. Don't keep it inside you, lest it blows up violently and cause an even bigger argument.
7. If you can't remember all this, then just remember this: Treat her the way you want to be treated. She deserves so much and as her husband, you must do your best to give all that she deserves.
I learned all this and yet, I still make these mistakes. I try hard not to but I still do. Thus, I'm thankful to Allah s.w.t. that I met my perfect woman. I love you honey, and I can't say it enough. I'm sorry I always irritate you with all the things I do. I love you.
